Mission Statement
Love in Action is a Christian organisation that seeks to demonstrate God's love in practical ways, by providing support, education and care for orphans and needy families in Uganda, especially those families affected by HIV/AIDS.
This is achieved by identifying and supporting existing community based initiatives with funding, advice and resources and also creating new projects responding to unmet needs.
History
Love in Action was founded in April 2004 by Alan and Beryl Went, from Colchester in the UK. They now live in Masaka, Uganda.
Although Uganda has a policy of Universal Primary Education that the government is implementing, it will be many years before it is fully operational. This means that the vast majority of children have little or no education.
What we do?
Love in Action works in a number of different fields as shown throughout this web site.
We built two schools in Kyetume, a village about 20 miles from Masaka. They are Bright Stars Nursery & Primary School and Kyetume Parents Senior Secondary School. These schools have been given to the School Directors and currently we have no involvement in these schools.
We have built and now run a Primary School and a Secondary School in Kasaka a village close to Lake Victoria.
We run an Internet cafe as a community service and training scheme.
We own and run a 5 acre farm near Masaka as an income generating project and training scheme.
We have 2 homes for teenagers, (Hosanna Youth Project), where young people can live in a safe environment whilst attending school / adult education.
We have a sponsorship scheme for children and young people.
Lastly we operate a Health Clinic in Kasaka for the school and surrounding population.
Official Status.
In October 2005 we applied to the NGO Board to be formally registered as an Non Governmental Organisation (Charity) in the Republic of Uganda. This was approved and then renewed in December 2006 & 2009.
In Febuary 2008, Love in Action (International) was formed as a UK Registered Charity (Reg No. 1122493).
We have five board members in Uganda.
