August is nearly over and so is building at the Farm, the house is now much better. Julius and his family are very happy, so are the farm workers - who are all on our 'learn and earn' scheme so they can improve their education.
Also the rainy season is starting so everyone is hard at work planting the crops, potatoes, maize, casava and beans. The pigs too are doing well, another 7 piglets were born last week.

The farm is now beginning to look good, today (18th May 2009) we should be starting to harvest the first real crops. The beans are now ready and we hope to pick about 500Kg for use at the school. Here are some pictures of crops growing at the farm.

| Andrew shows off a Black mamba snke that he caught on the farm. These snakes are poisonous and greatly feared! |
The beans are planted in the matooke (Banana) plantation, these are now being harvested. |
 |
 |
| Maize growing, this is either milled to make flour for porridge and the bran for the pigs, or cooked whole and enjoyed by all! |
A new matooke plantation has been planted, these will mature in 10 - 18 months and provide food for the various projects and some for sale |
 |
 |
| One of our pigs gave birth to 4 piglets, these are now ready for sale. |
Tomatoes, we have planted loads of tomatoe plants both at the farm and at Kasaka, these should bring in a good profit. |
 |
|
| Vanilla, we have a few vanilla vines on the farm, these will be dried and used for cooking at home. |

Today we completed purchase of a plot of land for the Love in Action Farm!
Today was the deadline to complete payment and we were waiting for funds to be transferred from the UK, there was a delay!! We checked with the bank this morning - they were not there! But we have to make the payment! Noah & Alan went to the bank, please check for us again, not there, help! Please check again with head office, yes the funds are in Kapala but not in our account in Masaka until tomorrow, but they allowed us draw on the funds anyway, Praise God!!!
After searching for over a year for some land we can use to rear pigs and grow crops we have a plot! Situated about 16Km from Masaka in a very fertile area it comes complete with a 3 bedroom house (no dont think you would like to live there) we really think that it will be a good addition to our project. Joshua has now moved in there. |

As a responsible organisation we need to be working towards generating income within Uganda and so reducing our dependency on donations. With this in mind and also the need to feed the children at the school in Kasaka we appointed Joshua as farm manager. Initially he is using land at the back of the school and a couple of other plots which we rent from local people in Kasaka. This year he had an excellent crop of tomatoes which he sold for a profit and he has also bought 10 pigs to grow and sell.

Other crops being grown include Matooke (a type of banana which is a staple food here), sweet potatoes and beans.
Matooke being grown We have received a donation to buy a plot of land near Kasaka and we are currently negotiating for its purchase.
